MACN & GCNP

About MACN

The Maritime Anti-Corruption Network (MACN) is a global business network working towards the vision of a maritime industry free of corruption that enables fair trade to the benefit of society at large. Established in 2011 by a small group of committed maritime companies, MACN has grown to include over 165 companies globally, and has become one of the pre-eminent examples of collective action to tackle corruption.
MACN and its members work towards the elimination of all forms of maritime corruption by: raising awareness of the challenges faced; implementing the MACN Anti-Corruption Principles and co-developing and sharing best practices; collaborating with governments, non-governmental organizations, and civil society to identify and mitigate the root causes of corruption; and creating a culture of integrity within the maritime community.

MACN & GCNP

The Global Compact Network Pakistan was formed in December 2005 at the initiative of Employers’ Federation of Pakistan, which was then led by late Mr. Ashraf W. Tabani former President of Employers’ Federation of Pakistan and former Governor Sindh. Ever since its launch, for the last fifteen years, the Pakistan Network is acting as a private sector platform to enable business enterprises in embracing the ten principles of UN Global Compact in areas of Human Rights, Labour Rights, Environment and Anti-Corruption.

The objective of the Network is to provide leadership to business and industries by enhancing their capacity to not only embrace the 10 principles in the norms of their organization as a part of their work culture but also to strive for creating a climate which enables the industry to operate in a level playing field free of corruption and malpractices.

The Tenth Principle of the UN Global Compact states that “Businesses should work against corruption in all its forms, including extortion and bribery.”  This is important for ensuring business sustainability in extremely competitive global economy.

Among many initiatives GCNP has undertaken as a part of the action programs of the United Nations Global Compact, a major initiative now being taken is Call for action against corruption and corrupt practices in the maritime industry of Pakistan. While Maritime Anti-Corruption Network (MACN) is collaborating with GCNP in Pakistan, this Project is made possible through Siemens Integrity Initiative in order to strengthen the private sector’s capacity to resist corruption and enable fair market competition nationally and globally.

This will involve engagement of all stakeholders including shipping companies, shipping agents, freight forwarders, textile exporters, and their associations, importers and exporters of various products, customs port authorities etc.
